“Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”
― L. Frank Baum
It’s graduation time, and for many, the thought is, what’s behind the curtain, what is the future going to be about. Am I prepared, will I fail, will there be a future… then what?
The fact is, this is a great opportunity, no matter how fearful or excited you are, as you have two basic choices.
- Buy into the current system of chasing the money in a rigged system, or
- Chose to be true to your better self by looking to build a better future from the inside.
This isn’t to say your two choices are not mutually exclusive, some very successful individuals do manage to do both. However, no matter how they manage to do it, they never do it alone. They do it in how they run their businesses, treat their employees and produce products and services that do no harm. On one extreme, selfishness, on the other, altruism. The key is finding your true balance between those extremes.
What ever your choice, we always must be true to ourselves, and thus more real to others. From this honesty comes trust, which builds relationships, and everything, and I mean everything is relationships.
Inversely, strong relationships only exist and succeed when both sides feel truth and integrity from the other. The only thing that gets in the way here is fear. Fear of losing, discovering jealousy, failing or having the belief you are not worthy. All that creates a lack of awareness of the moment, which may blind you from opportunities.
No matter what you have learned in school, or in leaving one job or relationship for another new beginning, you now have a chance to be real and true to your dreams of a would you want to live in.
If you want to live in a more cut throat, dog eat dog world where only a few make it to the top, destroying others on the way, then follow those who worship greed above all else. A world where lives are ruined for a few to climb over the top of others all trying to catch the “Golden Squirrel.” You know, those who think you can buy love but who only find the illusion of love, the ultimate loss.
If you want to see a world of infinite possibilities, a world of empowerment for all, a clean, safe, sustainable, renewable and secure world where freedom is not confused with anarchy, then open your self to being a part of that world today. Treat others the way you wish to be treated.
Act accordingly, make the choices you know to be true to yourself and work hard to make a full life. There will be bumps in the road, wrong turns and deception, but remember, life is a path not a destination. Enjoy and learn from every moment on the path, no matter good or bad.
The opportunity for a new beginning, whether job, college, relationship change, what ever it may be, know just as you have awoken each morning, you have a chance to begin again.
Consider what the man who chose to go make salt said as he worked to change the world:
“We must become the change we wish to see in the world.”
– Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi
