“I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.” — Henry David Thoreau

I can only suggest you google the title of this article to find the many medical, psychological and physiological websites that espouse the value of taking the time to venture out and walk in a natural environment.

The scientific consensus is as clear as the list is pages long, and that’s the point…. you gain increased self-esteem, increase your immune function, remove yourself from toxic air indoors and in cities, diminish your stress levels and help you clear your mind by reminding you there is more to life than your day-to-day work and life issues.

Here is a suggestion, take a pad of paper and a pencil, head out for a walk in nature, and then sit down, put pencil to paper and write down your thoughts, what ever comes to mind, put a date on it and let it be. Go out again the next day if you can and do the same, create a journal of your thoughts and feelings each time you walk in the woods, do it over weeks and months, consider it an opportunity to see your life expand… get a higher point of view so to speak.

Notice your feelings, then let them go, notice the smells of the forest, the trees, it is a different world. Like traveling overseas, walking in the woods gives you a different perspective on life, and expansive awareness of your value, and insignificance of it all at the same time. In fact, walking in Nature is a gift only you can give yourself. Look back on your journal after a few months, you will see the changes, a life benefited by Nature. What you see is of tremendous value when you remove your self from your everyday life and stresses.

For those of you who can’t always get out, Subscribe to our HDSereneScapes® films for just $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year with a 7 day free trial period and play them when you can’t be outside in nature. For one, I highly recommend “Redwood Coast California” for that stroll in the woods feeling. But all our films work on the same visual basis. Listen to the birds, the wind in the tress, the waves off the ocean and find yourself connecting with a very different part of who you are.

As Thoreau said, when you come out, you will feel taller than the trees, and for even a short time, that is a very good thing.

You see, it’s not so much that you find new value in Nature, it is that you find in Nature, your true self.
